Non Destructive Testing
NON DESTRUCTIVE TESTING plays a vital part in manufacturing, quality control and plant life
management. It used in a wide range of industries including Aerospace, Oil
& Gas, Manufacturing, Power Generation, Petrochemical, Transport and Civil
Engineering.
ULTRASONIC INSPECTION (UT) uses complex electronic equipment. Any material which transmits
mechanical vibrations can be tested. UT detects both linear and non-linear
flaws and permits three dimensional interpretations. Evaluation is often
difficult. The UT instrument converts electrical pulses into mechanical
vibrations or waves. These waves travel across the tested specimen and reflect
from flaws because of their different acoustic nature. The returning reflected
waves are reconverted to electric energy and displayed as signals on a cathode
ray tube (CRT). The position and size of these signals correspond to the
position and size of the flaws.
RADIOGRAPHIC INSPECTION (RT) Material density and its thickness set the limits of RT's usefulness.
Internal flaws are RT's forte; its two dimensional views sometimes its
drawback. RT uses penetrating radiation and works on the principle that denser
or thicker materials will absorb more radiation and a sheet of radiographic
film or image amplifier. A flaw presents anywhere within the specimen will
absorb less radiation than the specimen itself. The flaw's presence and
location will be indicated by an area of higher or darker exposure.
MAGNETIC PARTICLE INSPECTION (MPI) & DYE
PENETRANT INSPECTION (DPI) The surface
defect is difficult to be inspected using technology of RT or UT. Most of UT
equipment has a dead zone area that could not inspect a defect that close to
the surface. MPI & DPI give the solution to find more exact the surface
defect.
EDDY CURRENT INSPECTION (EC) instrument can be small and portable, or large multi--channel devices.
The method is used only on electrically conductive materials. An energized
electric coil induces a magnetic field into the tested specimen. The
fluctuating magnetic field generates an electric eddy current. This change is
electronically analyzed to provide flaw severity or material condition
information.
PRESSURE TESTING activity is the final
testing after construction and installation of the equipments such as pressure
vessel, tank, boiler, piping, pipeline etc. to ensure mechanical strength,
sound weld, system connection leaking in accordance with international code and
standard.
HYDROSTATIC TESTING DIVISION provides the pressure testing service including equipment
and qualified personnel (operator). The testing performed using pressurized
water produced from the pressure pump and measured by pressure recorder and
gauge that attached to the equipment system test.
In the area pipeline activities, our division provides
pipeline pigging services to ensure the cleanness of the pipeline after
construction and testing and also provides intelligent pig to ensure the
soundness of material for new pipeline or re assessment of the existing
pipelines.
CLEANING DIVISION is
part of hydrostatic division and provides tank cleaning services during repair
or recondition and also pipeline cleaning services after pressure testing. The
division provides equipment and qualified personnel (operator).
Intelligent Pig
Services
Fully supported by Principal, The Principal is one of a
leading intelligent pig inspection which manufactures
and operates tools for oil and gas pipeline inspection-pigs, which check
anomalies such as ovalnesses, crushing and corrosions, contributing to avoid
leakages that may cause ecological accidents.
For more than ten (10) years rendering inspection services throughout countries in the world, providing also tools
to worldwide partners.
The intelligent pig services offer:
Caliper:
Principal was the first true
multi-channel standard geometry inspection tool. Embedded computer electronics
and data management software advanced Principal’s geometry tool to a high
resolution level. The tool is designed to be used in the most challenging
situations, to effectively detect and size deformations that can affect
pipeline integrity or impede the passage of other tools.
High data sampling rates and special
software features allow large variation of velocity with acceptable results, a
must for typical compressed air propulsion used commonly in construction jobs.
Accurate data allows new pipeline commissioning based on valid data.
Longitudinal distance measurement to
assure accurate location of anomalies uses the same odometer system as MFL
tools. Magnetic sensors give 3 digital ticks per foot and analog sinusoid
quadrature signals to allow for distance interpolation and forward/backward
movement discrimination.
Individually calibrated magnetic based displacement sensors are strategically placed inside the cup for the ultimate in robustness.
Individually calibrated magnetic based displacement sensors are strategically placed inside the cup for the ultimate in robustness.
Full data recording provides for best
data analysis. Unique graphical representations for tool signal were developed
by Principal to best characterize line features and defects. An animated
section view, a min/max diameter view and a 3D view are available with the
software supplied to the user. Software allows clients to manage defect, weld
and pipeline features tables as well as view raw data.
Geometric Inspection Pig:
Data quality is monitored on-line real
time to avoid reruns. Severe defects may be marked on the pipeline on-the-fly.
High precision odometer with accuracy in fractions of a foot, reading forward and backwards, combined with nearby pipeline features and o'clock position assures precise defect location.
A complete PipeScan software management
system allows for table views of defects as well as pipeline accessories such
as taps, valves and supports, assuring quick defect location. A Pipeline
Coverage View is provided with zooming features to graphically navigate on the
report results. MFL signal visualization is as close as a mouse click on the
defect table entry. Line graph, color graph or gray scale graphing is
immediately available. Software coordinates data merger to assure integrated
analysis when multiple scans are required to cover the full pipe circumference.
Magnetic Flux Leakage:
Longitudinal distance measurement is to
assure accurate location of anomalies. Magnetic sensors give 3 digital ticks per
foot and analog sinusoid quadrature signals to allow for distance interpolation
and forward/backward movement discrimination.
Principal’s policy is “continuous
improvement” committed to meet every pipeline challenge to fulfill our clients
requirements.
Up-to-date computer hardware and
components, flash memories and signal conditioning electronics record the
signals from the sensors in full, without any filtering criteria, to allow for
best post-run signal analysis and comparison with future runs.
Data from the Porcupine may be compared
with MFL signals from Principal runs or with defect tables from competitor’s
surveys, on a joint by joint basis. Special software tools give the ability for
comparison with an integrated internal/external report when the runs are
combined.
Detailed and precise defect mapping by Porcupine may be used
by Principal or third party software to effectively apply Level-2 (effective
area) or even Level-3 defect assessment criteria and eventually approve defects
when Level-1 criteria such as ASME B31G condemns the pipeline to expensive
repairs.
Unique Inspection for ID Defects –
Patented
Unique concepts behind tool design,
analysis and data management software allow the Porcupine as a “stand alone”
tool or combined with MFL modules in a single ILI tool, able to do internal and
external inspection in a single passage.
Sophisticated mathematics embedded in
the wall search technique compensates for issues such as wall thickness
variations from nominal value for both minor and major changes. This technique
also deals with normal pipeline oval ties, up to 1% OD. In addition, a natural
varying tool displacement from pipe center axis is also compensated for using
the same system.
Magnetic based displacement sensors
measure wall position with respect to tool center, indicating both metal loss
and deposits such as hard wax or scale. Tools operate the same in liquid or gas pipelines.
Material
Identification and Failure Analysis
Failures of components or structures in industry give get a significant
effect on continuity of production flow, which means it is potential to
financial, time and possibly human life lost. Failure of components or structures could be
caused by wrong material selections, bad fabrication or assembly, or improper
operational procedure during services. In addition, every plant component or
structures is designed for limited life span which depends on the operating
condition as well as the maintenance program.
The life span will vary according to the component type. Generally the design life span is less than
the absolute life span of its components in which any damage will be beyond
repair. For a given operating condition,
the economical life can be extended, provided that the remaining life has been
known.
One of PT. INTERNUSA
